*In 1984, President Ronald Reagan established January 22 as National Sanctity of Human Life Day to coincide with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion-on-demand in all 50 states on January 22, 1973. Reagan issued the proclamation annually thereafter, designating Sanctity of Human Life Day to be the third Sunday in January, which represents the closest Sunday to the original January 22nd date.
