Have you ever thought to yourself, "I've seen it all, nothing else could shock me"? I can't tell you how many times I've thought that only to find myself shocked again by something more unbelievable than the last. I don't think any of us can truly understand the fallen nature of man and the depravity of man's heart. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that, "The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick, who can understand it?" Where would we be without Jesus?

Recently I came across a story online about the abortion doctor, Kermit Gosnell, who was arrested in February of 2010 in Pennsylvania. The information that I'm about to share will shock you, but we need to be aware of what is really going on in the name of "pro choice" and" women's health care".

When the FBI raided the Women's Medical Society, they expected to find evidence that it was illegally selling prescription drugs. Upon entering, they quickly realized something else was amiss. In the grand jury reports it states, "There was blood on the floor. A stench of urine filled the air. A flea-infested cat was wandering through the facility, and there were cat feces on the stairs. Semi-conscious women scheduled for abortions were moaning in the waiting room or the recovery room, where they sat on dirty recliners covered with blood-stained blankets. All of the women had been sedated by unlicensed staff." Authorities had also learned about a patient who died at the facility several months prior.

Public health officials inspected the surgery rooms. "Instruments were not sterile," the grand jury states. "Equipment was rusty and outdated. Oxygen equipment was covered with dust, and had not been inspected. The same corroded suction tubing used for abortions was the only tubing available for oral airways if assistance for breathing was needed. There was no functioning resuscitation or even monitoring equipment, except for a single blood pressure cuff." Upon further inspection, "The search team discovered fetal remains haphazardly stored throughout the clinic - in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers."

Dr. Gosnell admitted to one of the detectives that at least 10-20 percent of the fetuses were probably older than 24 weeks in gestation - even though Pennsylvania law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks. In some instances, surgical incisions had been made at the base of the fetal skulls. He regularly and illegally delivered live babies in the third trimester of pregnancy and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. They estimated that Gosnell performed at least four or five illegal abortions every week. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels - and, on at least two occasions, caused their death.

Dr. Gosnell is now being charged with seven counts of first-degree murder and is standing trial in a Philadelphia court. Most of these acts cannot be prosecuted, because Gosnell destroyed the files. Among the relatively few cases that could be specifically documented was one concerning Baby Boy (a). His 17 year old mother was almost 30 weeks pregnant (7 1/2 months) when labor was induced. An employee estimated his birth weight as approaching six pounds. He was breathing and moving when Gosnell severed his spine and put the body in a plastic shoebox for disposal. The doctor joked that this baby was so big he could "walk me to the bus stop". Another, Baby Boy (b) whose body was found at the clinic frozen in a one-gallon spring water bottle, was at least 28 weeks gestation. Baby (c) was moving and breathing for 20 minutes before an assistant came in and cut the spinal cord, just the way she had seen Gosnell do so many times, and these are not even the worst cases. All of the employees of the Women's Medical Society knew. Everyone there acted as if it wasn't murder at all. The testimonies of eye witnesses are too grisly to even write about.

Dr. Gossnell's practices are shocking, but what is even more shocking is the fact that this trial has received little to no coverage in the national media. Isn't the agenda of the pro-choice movement radically clear here? Has our conscience as a society become so seared that atrocities like these are no longer news worthy but common place? If the pro-choice movement were really advocates of women's health and choice, how could they possibly stand by and let these kind of atrocities take place? Why hasn't every media outlet in America covered this trial? It makes me wonder how many other doctors are out there like Dr. Gosnell who just haven't been exposed. Please pray that the Lord will expose this type of evil to the point that the media can no longer ignore it or sweep it under the carpet.

It may motivate the Church to love and show mercy. It may help those who have participated in abortions or chosen to have an abortion to find hope. Most people like to think of abortions as merely the end of a pregnancy. This is why they refer to it with euphemisms like choice, healthcare, and equality. This is why many of us hate the graphic posters the sidewalk counselors that abortion protestors force on us. The last thing we want to have to think about is the reality of abortion-the human beings whose lives are being taken in the name of choice, healthcare, and equality. If the abortion industry is guilty of wanting to keep society in the dark, society is guilty of wanting to be left in the dark. We don't want to know about the severed body parts, the crushed skulls, the tiny lifeless bodies, or the spilt blood. We want to believe abortion simply makes a pregnant woman un-pregnant with something like the wave of a magic wand."

Because we minister to women who have had abortions and year after year the stories get worse and worse, I can't help but think about the women who were subjected to these procedures. One woman was left lying in place for hours after Gosnell tore her cervix and colon while trying, unsuccessfully, to extract the fetus. Another patient who was 19 years old was held for several hours after Gosnell punctured her uterus. As a result of the delay, she fell into shock from blood loss and had to undergo a hysterectomy. A third patient went into convulsions during an abortion, fell off the procedure table, and hit her head on the floor. Gosnell wouldn't call an ambulance, and wouldn't let the woman's companion leave the building so that he could call an ambulance. Often times, women given drugs to induce labor delivered before the doctor even arrived at work. One patient, who was a 41 year old refugee who could not speak English, died. The mental torment that these women will face after the fact can't even be imagined. They need to know that there is hope and healing in Jesus Christ.

We have heard similar stories from some of the women we have ministered to over the years. All of these women need Jesus. He is their only hope. They need to know that their sins can be forgiven and that we serve a God who loves them and who can heal their wounds.
