Dear Friend,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your prayer and financial support this year. We are seeing God move in mighty ways in every area of our ministry and are excited to see what He has in store for us this fall.
We would like to ask for your prayers for all of our leaders as they begin fall groups. Some leaders are juggling more than one group and some are doing e-ministry and groups at the same time. Pray for God's anointing to be upon them to minister to the broken and the lost. Pray for protection from the enemy as they use God's Word to regain precious ground lost by sin in the lives of those they are ministering to.
Prayer is also needed for two other areas of our ministry, Hope Place, the women's shelter of the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle and our prison ministries in Purdy, Washington and Dwight, Illinois. Both of these ministries are difficult due to the fact that the women are not always able to complete the whole bible study and their attendance can be hit and miss at best. In spite of the difficulties, we see God's mighty hand move and lives change. I would like to share reports with you on both areas of ministry.
Hope Place, Union Gospel Mission Women's Shelter by Susie Alicandro
Several Healing Hearts leaders, all "Susans", Susan Owen, Susan Huseby, Sue Sanford, and I were invited to Hope Place women's shelter to share our testimonies and the ministry. I was able to give my testimony to about 50 or so women, including the director, program director, on-site counselor and several case workers. It was a God- anointed time. I awoke that morning with such a tender heart and tears for these precious women, and I just knew God was preparing my heart. Of course, I had pages of notes, however I never looked at them once. God just filled my mouth in the most amazing way! I had to stand in the middle of a huge circle to speak, and had to keep turning around to see everyone's face. I told them they should have provided a lazy- susan for me to stand on! There were lots of tears and lots of eye avoidance, so I know God was touching hearts. Susan Huseby also gave her testimony and Susan Owen shared a bit about Healing Hearts Ministries. We had a line of women come up to us at the end wanting to take the Binding up the Brokenhearted post-abortion study and the Hem of His Garment class. The response was overwhelming. These precious women are so open and transparent, not worried about what others think. They just want to be healed! Praise to our precious Jesus! Please continue to pray for this ministry at "Hope Place".
Dwight Women's Correctional Facility by Cindy Runyon
We concluded our group on August 25th. It was, as most groups are at the end, bittersweet. I felt the women in group made huge strides in their relationship with Jesus. One woman, Diane, gave her life to the Lord. It was amazing to see how God worked in each heart, and the huge changes that I witnessed every time they came to group. There are some issues that need fine tuning as we prepare for our next group, but God will pave the way. We get to interview the inmates this time; in our last group, the six women were picked by the Chaplain and a Christian counselor at the prison. Out of the original six women, three didn't complete the study. One was released and one, "Joanie", had conflicts with a job. I'm not sure her heart was ready to do the study because she was grieving the loss of two children. Another woman who was in the same unit as "Joanie" had difficulty reading, writing and just understanding. She depended on "Joanie" for help and when "Joanie" quit coming, so did "Betty". Although we were discouraged about losing those three, God prevailed in the lives of the three women who remained.
We were encouraged when we had lunch with the Chaplain one day and there were two other women who work within the prison sitting at our table. When they found out what we did, they mentioned the changes they had seen in one of the women who was one of their students, so the Chaplain got to hear first-hand what God did in the lives of one of the inmates. I'm thankful to be part of the prison ministry and to be used by God for His almighty purposes. Our next group will begin September 22nd. Please keep us in your prayers.
No group is scheduled at this time for Purdy Women's Correctional Center. Please pray that God will raise up leaders for both the prison ministries and for Hope Place. The need is so very great!
Thank you again for partnering with us in prayer and for the sacrifices that you make financially so that our work can continue
May the Lord bless and keep you always.
In His love
