Dear Friend,
Over the past several months as I have talked with friends and watched what is happening in our world, it is evident that many are feeling pressed in from every side. Most of us have never experienced the drastic changes in our society that we are seeing right now. It truly makes one ponder what it means to trust God and walk in faith.
Many of you know that for over a year now my husband and I have been trying to sell our home, because we feel that God is calling us to take Healing Hearts to the next level so that the ministry can grow and reach more hurting people for Jesus. It seems like every month we have watched the value of our property plummet and just a few weeks ago we had to make a decision to lower the price once again, knowing that we have now lost 90% of our equity. During this decision- making process, as we sought the Lord for guidance and direction, a very well meaning friend said to me, "God wouldn’t want you to just give your property away!" Although she meant well, at that moment my heart quickened and I said to myself, "Is that true?" I love how the Holy Spirit quickens our hearts with truth in critical times, especially when we are facing a crisis of faith.
As I pondered what I knew to be true, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the story of Abraham. In Genesis chapter 22 it says, "Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, "Abraham?" And he said, "Here I am." (2) And He said, "Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you." (3) So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son and he split wood for the burn offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. (4) On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance. (5) And Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go yonder; and we will worship and return to you." (6) And Abraham took the wood of the burn offering and set it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. (7) And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burn offering?" (8) And Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burn offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together. (9)Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there, and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. (10) And Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. (11) But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" and he said, "Here I am." (12) And he said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."
I can't even imagine how Abraham felt that day when he heard God tell him to sacrifice his son, the promised seed, his only hope of being the father of many nations. I'm sure if Abraham would have shared this with his friends they would have told him exactly what my friend said. God could not possibly ask you to do this thing that you are saying! But, you see, Abraham knew His God. He knew that his God would not lie. God made a covenant with Abraham in Genesis 17:2 and said to him, "I will multiply you exceedingly". Although Abraham didn't understand how this could all come about, he didn't question God because he had faith to know that somehow, some way, God would provide a sacrifice, or he would raise Isaac from the dead. I find it interesting that in verse 4 Abraham told the two men to stay so that Isaac and he could go yonder and worship. In spite of what God was asking Abraham to do, he worshiped God. He basically said by his actions, "Lord, no matter what you ask me to do, I will never stop worshiping you."
Sometimes God calls us to do hard things. Sometimes we need to be tested so that our faith can grow and sometimes that testing shows us just how much our faith has grown. Sometimes testing shows us where our heart really is so that we can repent. It can also show us whom we worship. Do we worship the god of this world or the God who created it? Testing can show us how really BIG our God is.
Every day I pray that God will give me a faith like Abraham. A faith that can walk forward and not question the voice of God, a faith that will trust in Him no matter what the circumstances are, a faith that can say to the mountain, "be moved", and know that my God is BIG enough to truly move the mountain.
If you are facing hard times and having to make very difficult decisions, you are not alone. I believe the body of Christ today is being refined by fire so that we will be more like Jesus for the glory of God. Do you have enough faith to lay your Isaac down? It's yours if you will turn and worship the only One who can give hope in times of hopelessness. Our only hope is in Jesus and the power of His Word. He is a covenant-keeping God who will never leave us or forsake us. He will be there for us through the storm, and even if the ship hits the rocks, He will be there to pick up the pieces. Today, if we look beyond our current circumstances, we will truly see how BIG God really is. We have all been called for a time such as this. Let us draw near to the Lord and worship Him in Spirit and truth. "Lord, give us the faith to walk by what we know and not by what we see."
May the Lord bless and keep you always.
In His love
