March 2009 Prayer Letter

Dear Friend,
Over the past several weeks, as I have watched the leaders of our country strive to hold up a toppling house of cards, my heart has been grieved. On one hand they are striving relentlessly to save our economy, and then with the stroke of a pen they are condemning innocent children, made in the image of God, to die, not only in our country but across the world.
On January 23, 2009 our President signed an executive order to revoke the Mexico City Policy. This policy had required all non-governmental organizations that receive federal funding to refrain from performing or promoting abortion services in other countries. Now, U. S. funding can be used to enable the performing and promoting of abortions overseas. Those who provide abortion services have renewed strength and vigor because millions of tax-payer dollars have been made available for their cause.
According to a letter I received from Life International, Dr. Stephen Karanja, a leading consultant obstetrician and gynecologist in Kenya, expressed deep concern about changes in
U. S. policy that foster abortions overseas. He stated that ninety percent of those polled in Kenya consider abortion an abomination. "And that is what Americans are bringing to us: an abomination," said Dr. Karanja. "What these Americans do affects innocent people thousands of miles away," he said. How terribly sad that this is what people in other countries are saying about America.
On the home front, this week I received a telephone call from a pastor's wife in Juno, Alaska who was deeply grieved and concerned. She told me that the local Crisis Pregnancy Center there was closing its doors for lack of support, and for the first time ever Planned Parenthood was opening up a clinic. She requested that I pray, and also asked if I would come to Juno to help local pastors come up with a plan of action for their city to assist young women who need help with untimely pregnancies.
My heart grieves not only for our country but for the church in America. It's easy for us all to say the word church, but when we say it, we are actually talking about you and me. We are the church. God's people can not stand idly by and do nothing. 2 Chronicles 7: 13-14 says, "If I, the LORD, shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
It's time to get serious with our prayer time. It's time to look deep within our own hearts and repent, not just for the things we have done, but for the things that we have neglected to do. It's time to humble ourselves and seek the face of God, for He is the only one who can save our nation.
In past years, I have been guilty of not praying as I should for the leaders of our nation. For this, God has called me to heartfelt repentance. Please join with me in daily prayer for the leaders of our nation. Pray that they would see truth and that they would turn to God and repent.
Please keep Healing Hearts in your prayers. Pray for our leaders, as they have all experienced a heavy load of ministry these past few months, not to mention illnesses and the warfare that comes when the ministry load is heavy.
We want to thank you for your prayers and your financial giving. We know that there are many organizations worthy of your support and we are truly grateful that you have chosen to give to Healing Hearts.
May the Lord bless and keep you always.
In His love
