It may seem strange that a ministry would do counseling via the internet, but we all know that God is BIG and can do miraculous things through any means to reach the people He loves and wants to heal. Our E-ministry was developed quite by accident almost twelve years ago when someone volunteered to build Healing Hearts a web page. Once the page was launched, we started receiving emails from hurting women and men all over the U.S. who wanted to share their stories with us. As I sat at my computer and read their stories, my heart broke. At that time Healing Hearts was only operating bible study groups in Western Washington, but I knew that there had to be something we could do to help, so I emailed each one back and poured out my love and God's Word to them. Many of them confessed that out of all the ministries they had written to, we were the only ones who answered, which broke my heart even more. I sensed that God was speaking to them through my emails and many of them answered, expressing heartfelt thanks for the comfort they had received. Several years later the Lord gave us the idea to ask those who had emailed us if they would like to receive a copy of the Healing Hearts study, and if they would like someone to correspond with while they were working through the study. Many of them accepted and, although it was a long process, we had quite a few graduates. Some wanted to know how they could help others, went through our Leadership training, and Healing Hearts started expanding beyond the state of Washington. In 2000, we met new challenges when we received emails from individuals outside of the U.S. who wanted help. Many who contacted us could not afford to purchase a copy of the study. I remember the first study we mailed to England cost us $25 for the postage. Yikes!!!! The Lord gave us the idea of making PDF attachments of each chapter of our studies and attaching them to an email to our e-clients so we could offer the study free of charge to anyone, anywhere. By 2002, the ministry had rapidly grown, and one of our senior leaders volunteered to coordinate the activity of matching up clients to counselors and attaching all of the PDF's to emails as they worked their way through the study. In less than two years, this volunteer position almost became a full time job, so we knew that we needed once again to rethink the process. In 2004 I asked our web developer if it would be possible for us to put all of our studies on our web site and let the web site do the work of connecting client to counselor. She said that anything was possible, so we went to work to make that happen. It took almost a year to complete and within a month of launching our new site, we were ministering to approximately 90 individuals at any given time from all over the globe. To make sure that we were giving our very best, every counselor had an on-line supervisor who was able to monitor the counsel given through a supervisor's interface. The counselor’s interface allowed them to communicate back and forth with the client as the client worked through the study to completion. All of this is highly private, confidential and secure. "Google™ it". We all know what that means; put some word or phrase into the search box and hit the return key. Unless one still has dinosaur dial-up service, the search result produces bazillions (I'm sure that's a word!) of pages of information in a fraction of a second. All over the world, women and men are searching for healing. They are "google-ing" phrases to find healing and discovering Healing Hearts and the bible studies we offer. Upon enrollment in the online study, hurting women and men are paired up with a leader who will answer any questions in the study, counsel, encourage and pray with and for the client. How far does technology really reach? Currently, we have 97 clients working through one of our three studies online. Of those 97 clients, 21 of them are located outside the United States. These current clients live in: Australia, Canada, England, Guatemala, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore and Ukraine. While a live group setting is our preferred method of discipleship or mentoring, God is using technology to help reach women and men we wouldn't be able to reach without the internet. This brief testimony from an e-client sums it up well: "I can't express how much this study, along with God, has transformed my life. I now understand that God can and will forgive ANYONE who truly wants forgiveness. He is not picky or judgmental. He is a great God" --MM Our E-ministry is now a major avenue of ministry for Healing Hearts. Because of it we now have leaders in 29 states and 4 foreign countries.
