As we near February 14th, a day widely celebrated as Valentine's Day, we can express our love through acts of kindness, thoughtful gifts, and attention to the needs of our loved ones.
But what does the Bible have to say about love? First, the Bible says that "love is from God" and that "God is love" (1 John 4:7-8). God is the true source of love, it is a fundamental characteristic of who He is. As we grow in His love and understanding, we can love as He has loved us, and that includesour enemies(Matthew 5:44), not just those who do good things for us. We can reflectGod's love to a lost and dying world, "we love because He first loved us". (1 John 4:19)
When Melissa took our study, "The Hem of His Garment," she experienced the Lord's forgiveness, healing, and everlasting love. His love transforms us and gives us new life to live and love as He commands, not as the world does. Read what Melissa says God did for her:
“What God did for me... I feel like not only have I healed, but I`ve progressed so much in my walk with the Lord. I feel like I understand now how to really walk with him, how to lean on him for answers, how to listen and hear his voice. I worked through a lot of things the past 10 weeks. I realized that I am a sinner and that it`s ok because Jesus saved me - I realized how my sin created my own problems - I realized how other people`s sins affected my life, and I realized how I can have compassion for them because they are just sinners who need Jesus too. This has helped me to let go of my pain and resentment towards those who have sinned against me. I have watched the Lord be there for me when I needed him - truly walking beside me and helping me through so many situations - and it`s undeniable that it`s him because he handles things in a way that`s completely different than I would do it - and always so much better. This gives me trust that he will walk with me and help me through ANY situation I encounter, so I don`t need to be worried about future events anymore. I can just rest in the peace that comes from knowing that whatever happens in my life, that he will be there - guiding me, helping me, showing me the way - he`s the Waymaker, and I understand now why because he always creates a way. I`ve also come to realize that he doesn`t make troubles go away per se - but he will walk with you through it and create a way through it - I was always scared about what the future may hold for me and my family, and now I can see that everything will be fine and that he will create a way through it for me - this takes the pressure off tremendously for me. I feel free. Thank you Lord for healing me and for saving me from myself and the world, and just bringing me into your loving arms.”
