Dear Friend,
Ready for some exciting Men’s Ministry news?
Until recently, our small group of male counselors have been mostly asked to manage themselves individually. And they’ve all done an amazing job. But now, with our Men’s Ministry entering an era of rapid growth, it is time to get more organized and coordinated. To this end, we have invested in some new programming in order to create an official Men’s Ministry region and Regional Director. We are thrilled that Ed Maloney has graciously (and courageously) stepped up to answer the call.
Introducing Ed Maloney, Men’s Ministry Regional Director
Ed joined Healing Hearts Ministries after completing a study and training to become a Certified Healing Hearts Biblical Counselor in 2020. Originally from Connecticut, Ed moved to California in the late ’70s where he enjoyed a career in the touring sound and film industry as a sound and lighting technician. Ed heard God’s call on his life in early 1980. Inspired by his pastor, the late Jack Hayford, he satisfied his hunger to learn God’s word by taking classes offered at Church on The Way. Ed additionally completed a 3-year program at Living Praise Christian Fellowship. Ed has 15 years of experience in drug and alcohol counseling. After retiring in early 2021, Ed and his wife Leslie relocated to Travelers Rest, South Carolina. It was at that time that Leslie (also a Certified Healing Hearts Biblical Counselor) started serving as one of our women’s Regional Directors over the Southeast Region.
Over his years with the ministry, Ed has served as a proofreader, helping put the finishing touches on our second men’s study, “The Good Fight.” Since settling in South Carolina, Ed has been serving as an Elder and working to counsel the men of his church, with occasional teaching and preaching responsibilities.
He and Leslie share three adult children: Jacquelyn, 40, Ed’s daughter from a previous marriage, and Calilinn, 23 and Camryn, 20, who are Ed’s stepdaughters.
When asked about his passion for Healing Hearts ministry, Ed shared, “I’m passionate about giving men a format to be honest about their struggles so that they can find freedom. Too many of us get saved, start attending church, and quickly learn how to look like everyone else – sit and stand at the right time, sing the songs, and write a check. The problem is, we never learn how to confess sins and apply the Gospel so that we can be truly free. If you’re not free in Christ, then you’re really not free yet. When we don’t practice confession and repentance, it is like we’re wearing ankle bracelet monitors – we’re not really free when there are constraints. Paul writes in Galatians 5:1, ‘For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.’ I want to help more men find THAT kind of life-changing freedom and that’s what Healing Hearts studies are all about. As our ministry’s mission verse Isaiah 61:1-4 says, ‘The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.’ I’m so excited to see how many more men God will set free in 2023 and beyond, and how many more he will call to become Healing Hearts counselors in their own churches.”
Please make it a point to be praying for Ed and his team of men during this year of growth.

In other Men’s Ministry news…
- New Video: We recently produced a new video featuring the testimony of one of our leaders, Ron Morehead, to highlight our post-abortive men’s study, “Restoring a Father’s Heart.” We encourage you to watch it and share it: healinghearts.org/rfh-video.
- New Trainees: The Men’s Ministry currently has 6 active leaders and 4 active trainees serving across the US. We hope to welcome in Canada this year, and Central/South America once we complete our Spanish translations.
- Spanish Translations: Our translation team is busy working on Spanish translations of our studies, “The Good Fight” (“La buena batalla”) and “Restoring a Father’s Heart (“Restaurando el corazón de un padre”). Pastors in Cuba, Nicaragua, and the US are eager to begin training and using these resources as soon as we complete them.
- Help Men’s Ministry grow! Planting the men’s studies in your church has never been easier. Pastors, elders, or similarly qualified ministry leaders are invited to request authorization to purchase one or more copies of our men's studies to use in their church's counseling ministry. You can share this url with them to help them learn more: healinghearts.org/mens-authorized-buyer
Thank you for investing your prayers and resources to support Healing Hearts so that men (and women!) can find restoration and freedom. We love sharing in this mission with you and are so incredibly grateful for how God provides through your prayer and generous donations.
