Dear Friend,
With June bringing Father’s Day, we felt that now would be a great time to update you regarding our new men’s study, “The Good Fight: God’s Plan for Every Man” (TGF), slated for publication in Fall 2021. This valuable new study will be available both in print and in our online Bible study interface.
For the past year, our team has been working diligently to bring to life this long-awaited project—a men’s study that will minister to all men. Healing Hearts holds to the truth that God’s Word is sufficient to speak wisdom into, and bring restoration to, all circumstances and all people (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is this conviction that underpins each study we write.
You may know that previously we have had only one study to offer men, our post-abortive study Restoring a Father’s Heart. What an honor it has been to work with several different pastors and our male Healing Hearts leaders to develop an in-depth and comprehensive discipleship resource for men of every background.
As we work on the final layout and publication, we want to share with you some reactions from a few of our beta readers so that you can get a taste of what is coming soon!
Alan Van Boven, our first men’s counselor (serving since the original 1999 release of our post-abortive men’s study, Restoring a Father’s Heart), shared:
“I have been blessed to have played a role in the new men’s study. For many years now we have used our post-abortive men’s study, Restoring a Father’s Heart, to serve men who were not post-abortive. Even though they had not experienced abortion themselves, these men would come to us wanting to experience the restoration and healing found in the study, so we often found ourselves adapting the study on-the-fly to serve these men, too. Because it was based on God’s Word, they did find real healing through this adapted study experience. Still, we have longed for a study for men similar to our Hem of His Garment study for women that we could offer these men specifically. With The Good Fight nearing completion, we are excited that we will finally have that missing piece in place!
“Many men struggle with issues of idolatry, anger, sexual sin, abuse of loved ones, having been abused, forgiveness, and the ability to love their children, their wives, and their fellow man. These deep-seated issues, often buried for years, become obstacles to a close relationship with their Father and Savior. This new TGF study is a powerful tool to expose these sin-issues through confession, repentance and redemption.
“One specific issue I’ve seen men struggle with over and over again is self-forgiveness. TGF hits this barrier head-on, showing us that there is no biblical basis for self-forgiveness, and that our unwillingness to “forgive ourselves” for grievous sin is really an unwillingness to accept the complete forgiveness paid for by our Lord whose only Son was crucified for us.”
Ed Maloney, also a Healing Hearts men’s counselor, shared:
“When I first agreed to preview the new study, I don’t think I fully appreciated the weightiness that it would entail. My wife and I are both engaged in the ministry as counselors because Healing Hearts has had a profound effect both on our lives and on our marriage. As a Healing Hearts counselor, I’ve been enthusiastically anticipating this study coming out. After reading through it, I believe that the men’s study will be a powerful tool in the ministry’s ongoing purpose. While working through the various chapters an overpowering sense of awe came over me on the importance of God’s Word and the instruction of it. I am humbled and honored to have provided any input, whatsoever, in such a life-changing and worthy endeavor.”
In 2001, Healing Hearts developed the Hem of His Garment women’s study to serve the non-post-abortive women that our post-abortive study, Binding Up the Brokenhearted, was not directly reaching. In the years since, God has richly blessed that study’s growth, allowing us to reach over 4 times as many women annually as when we only served those who were post-abortive.
Our men’s ministry is now approaching this same juncture with the anticipated introduction of The Good Fight study to serve all men. Naturally, we are eager to see what kind of gospel growth God will bring to the men’s ministry with this new resource.
We provide the labor, God supplies the growth. Your prayers and support are a real part of that labor!
PRAY WITH US: That God will use this new study to give men who suffer, often too quietly, the courage, the humility, and the faith in God’s sanctifying grace, to seek healing; For the effective utilization of the time and skills of our staff members and volunteers; That we would complete the publication on time; For the men serving as Healing Hearts counselors to courageously and faithfully point broken men to God’s truth through our studies; For the Lord to raise up more men to serve with us as counselors; For the Lord to impress someone on your heart may need this study for their own healing.
Do you know a man who needs this new study, or our post-abortive study? Please direct them to www.healinghearts.org. There are trained male counselors who have walked through these studies themselves ready to help you, a husband, a friend, or another man in your life, to seek God’s redemptive healing.
As always, thank you for partnering with us on projects like The Good Fight through your gifts of time, prayer, and finances. A special thank you to the 11 donors who helped raise $25,000 to fund our “New Men’s Study” project this past year. Your one-time gifts and monthly donations of $25, $50, $100 or more, are making our ministry work possible. We can’t do it without you!
With Gratitude in Christ,
Your entire team at Healing Hearts Ministries
