Dear Friend,
On the journey of life, there are just certain mile markers that you need to pull over for to really take in how far you’ve come. With over 35 years of ministry behind us, we’ve covered a lot of miles and celebrated many key victories. Today, we’d like to “pull over” with you to celebrate the launch of the new 2.0 version of our online “E-Ministry,” a project that many of you helped us raise funds for in 2020. Let’s honor the Lord for what He’s accomplished through our efforts!
“E-Ministry” is the name given to the program that allows our counselors to lead clients through our Bible studies online when they cannot meet in person. No matter where someone lives – in the United States or overseas – they can be connected with a compassionate Healing Hearts Certified Counselor and find hope and healing in God’s Word. Since launching the E-Ministry tool in 2005, we’ve reached over 5,100 clients online whom we would otherwise not have been able to connect with.
To appreciate the milestone we’ve reached today, though, it’s worth looking back at where we started…
Lue Feathers, our E-Ministry Coordinator, has been serving with Healing Hearts since the early 2000’s when we were still managing an early form of the “e-ministry” exclusively through email. Lue writes,
“Back then, counselors would send me a client's email address, which study they were in, and what chapter to send next so I could send out an email with the next chapter as a PDF attachment. Clients would then email answers back to their counselor. But, sometimes, those files were too large for a client to receive, or they’d be lost in their spam folder. Needless to say, it was quite the clunky way for counseling or communication to take place. So it was a huge step up when we built our first E-Ministry Interface in 2005. After that, we had no more lost or deleted emails or concern about the size of the email attachment. All of the Bible study answers and conversations between client/counselor were now password protected and secure. And each counselor had tools to manage their client’s info.”
While the 1.0 version of our E-Ministry went on to serve us well for the next 15 years, the technology demands of today are much different from what they were in 2005, and we started noting ways in which we needed to improve to continue to serve people well. When 2020 and COVID-19 turned the world upside-down, our E-Ministry was thrust into the forefront as it became our counselors’ only tool for conducting ministry while in-person groups were shut down. (Up 50% on avg monthly enrollments!)
By spring 2020, it was clear that we needed to take action to build the next iteration of our E-Ministry tool. So we put out the call and our donors helped raise $25,000(!!!) to pursue the needed upgrades.
After an intense 6 months of development, we are thrilled to announce that on January 11, 2021, we officially launched the 2.0 interface for our “Binding Up the Brokenhearted” study, followed by “The Hem of His Garment” on February 14th. Spanish versions are in process right now, marking the first time ever we’ll be able to offer them online. By the end of 2021, we aim to launch a 2.0 edition of our men’s study, “Restoring a Father’s Heart,” and add the upcoming men’s study, “The Good Fight.”
With 2.0, we’ve gained the ability to replicate the printed study layout, page-for-page, on the online E-Ministry, so that now the experience of going through the study online or in-person is more tightly aligned, benefiting the counselor and client in many different ways. Additionally, this unlocks new opportunities to distribute our studies to foreign mission fields as the counselors overseas no longer have to wait for physical stock but can leverage the E-Ministry to print studies on-demand as they grow their ministry regions. We’ve also introduced mobile-friendly design for easier access on smart phones and tablets (a need that didn’t really exist back in 2005). That’s just to name a few of the upgrades.
Most importantly, it’s encouraging to hear how the 2.0 changes are making a difference for the people fighting on the frontlines, our counselors. Here’s what they’ve had to say so far:
“Our new format is even more intuitive than the previous online version. It’s easier to save partial pages of work if a client needs to stop mid-page. Each unit is now collapsible so if a client is nearly finished with the study, she doesn’t have to scroll page after page of previously completed work.” “Everything is at my fingertips on one page! I’m able to make comments on a page while having the client’s responses visible. It saves me so much time. Now that I can communicate with my overseer directly on each page, it’s more likely that I will seek advice when I need it, or ask for prayer relating to a specific topic we are discussing (and may be stuck on) within the study. And now my overseer can leave me encouraging remarks right in the study. Having the pages line up with the printed Leaders Guide helps me make connections with the client in the online setting that I would perhaps only make in person otherwise. These are very thoughtful changes to help us be that conduit of God’s to others.” “HEM 2.0 is very user-friendly for me, even though I only have a smart phone. The 2.0 study is easy to see everything when first logging on; my notes, if there is new communication from my client, easy to write comments and send, all from my phone!” Thank you to every donor who has prayed for, and donated to, this special “E-Ministry Retooling” project over the last year. We’ve only just begun to see what God will use it for, and it’s already a significant blessing. We’ll keep you posted on how it grows. May the Lord continue to be glorified in our efforts to bring His message of hope and healing to a world in desperate need. Be encouraged that your prayers and gifts, both large and small, are making a difference. Monthly gifts of $25, $50, $100 or more are what enable us to develop materials, tools, and training to reach the brokenhearted world-wide. Thanks for serving with us!
In His Service,
Allan Miller, Chief Operations Officer
