Dear Friend,
It’s not much; just one tiny pebble. Compared to the giant across the valley, what can it do?
On its own? Admittedly, not much. In a slingshot with a little skill? It might just put a dent in something.
But…put that small rock in the hand of an unstoppable, all-powerful God? Watch out!
We all know the story of how God used that smooth stone in David’s sling to not only defeat Goliath, but to put an entire enemy army to flight. David himself was no match for Goliath. Neither were the five small stones he plucked from the stream. At face value, they should not have been able to stop a giant dead in his tracks—but God made certain they did!
Have you ever noticed how over and over throughout the Bible God shows us how much He delights in taking the small and weak things of the world and doing mighty things with them? Feeding the five thousand? He did that with just one boy’s meal of five loaves and two fish (Matt. 14:15). Turn the world upside down with the Gospel? He started that with a few uneducated fishermen and outcasts (Acts 4:13). You see, our God is a God of multiplication.
The truth is, God doesn’t need (or really want) the biggest, brightest, most talented or most benevolent to do the incredible things He’s determined to do.Instead, what He looks for is simple faith and humble obedience, just like David’s. Why? Because then He gets to say “watch what only I can do,” and the glory belongs to Him.
So here you are today, reading a newsletter from a small ministry named Healing Hearts. You could rightly ask yourself, “What difference does my support here really make? After all, I’m just bringing a tiny pebble to a huge fight. What value is a short prayer or a few dollars in the grand scheme of things?”
What we do in and through Healing Hearts is very much a waging of war against giants—the giants of abortion, abuse, pornography, and other life-dominating sins that have claimed countless victims. These giants have no lack of resources or weapons and are often backed by the deep pockets of those who gain from their conquests. So, yes, it’s true; by itself, your small pebble doesn’t begin to put so much as a dent in these issues. But in God’s Hand? He is able to use what we bring in obedience to slay giants. Just listen to the testimonies of Ashley, Danny and J.H…
“This long yet difficult journey has been SO worth it. I've been forced to face giants that I thought were nonexistent. My life has been touched and transformed…. The bitterness, anger, and hatred that were so deeply rooted have been unmasked and revealed. This heart which was once of stone is now breathing life once again. I have NOT arrived and the work in me is nowhere near finished but it has just begun. He who started the work WILL be faithful to complete it!” – Ashley (The Hem of His Garment) “When I came to this study I was bound in pain, unable to forgive and bound in sin. I was about to lose my marriage. God never gave up on me, even when I did. He brought me to a place of being broken and then He did the unthinkable...He saved me, He restored me, and He restored my marriage. God used this study to open my eyes and to allow His Truth to work in my life. [This study] gives hope and allows God to wrestle with the heart issues. And guess what? God always wins!” – Danny (Restoring a Father’s Heart) “For 39 years I have been tortured by physical pain and unbearable grief and shame [after] making this terrible choice of murdering my child, so long ago. Somehow deep in my subconscious this sin was such an abomination that I had to be punished, even though Jesus had taken the punishment for me. This ministry and the care, kindness, and love shown to me by my counselor has changed my life. I have found healing that I did not think I would ever find in this life. It has shown me the depths of true forgiveness, not just for myself, but also in my ability to forgive those who have wronged me in any way. It is changing me into the woman God has always wanted me to be.” – J.H. (Binding Up the Brokenhearted)
Friend, be encouraged knowing that God wants to multiply the smallest of offerings you may bring to the fight. Do you offer up prayers for us and the hurting souls we touch? Do you find ways to tell others about Healing Hearts? Do you give financially? Rest assured, God will multiply those minutes, those conversations, those gifts—no matter the amount—to do what only He can do: Defeat the giants.
As we close, we want to humbly ask you to consider joining our “Monthly Donor” challenge for 2020.
You may already give once a year or a handful of times, but whatever amount that may be, would you consider converting that sum into a monthly donation? Do you give $100 over the year? Become a $10/month donor ($120). Do you give $500 every year? Become a $50/month donor ($600). Or maybe this will be the first time you join in as a regular donor.
These few dollars may feel like small stones to you, but when our God multiplies them they become the very foundation of God’s miracles in the lives of the lost and brokenhearted. These regular gifts also serve as a source of encouragement to our ministry, aiding us to budget and plan for growth.
If this is something the Lord is moving you to do, please visit www.healinghearts.org/donate today to set up your monthly giving plan. Thank you for considering this request and for keeping our ministry and those we serve in your prayers.
