Dear Friend,
A PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE ON HEALING HEARTS MINISTRIES
As a church planting pastor, I have been incredibly blessed by the ministry of Healing Hearts. However, before I share how, let me tell you a little about my story.
After serving in our home church for 15 years, my wife and I (along with 12 other people) launched a new church plant, Redemption Bible Church in Bonney Lake, Washington.
And those were exciting times; everything was new and challenging, and all about potential.
But then that potential began to be realized. The new church started to form and grow. Within a year, we were meeting for regular Sunday morning services, adding new members, and ministering to a variety of people. And with the growth, the burden of ministry began to significantly increase.
However, in that season, I was also introduced to Healing Hearts.
At first, I didn’t really understand how helpful Healing Hearts would be to our ministry.
When two members of our new church shared with me about Healing Hearts, I was initially excited about the ministry because of its focus on Christ-centered counseling to post-abortive women. And I am still excited about that aspect of the ministry.
In our previous church, I had always been involved in pro-life events, promoted Sanctity of Life Sunday, and taught the theology behind it all. But I also felt that too many of our churches were doing a poor job of ministering to the women(and men) who were already dealing with the ramifications of abortion.
It always seemed that this was an area where more grace-focused, Christ-centered ministry was needed.
So, from the very beginning, I’ve been sold on that aspect of Healing Hearts’ ministry. But I’ve come to see that Healing Hearts is so much more than I first thought.Â
As a younger pastor, it’s a challenge to come alongside the women in our church to encourage and counsel them. I care about them and want to help alleviate their burdens, but trying to do that one-on-one can create an awkward and uncomfortable (and usually unwise) situation for both people involved.
The answer has often been to raise up a thriving women’s ministry, complete with gifted women who can counsel other women who are in crisis.
However, when you’re just starting out— or you’re a small church— those resources often aren’t present. Now, don’t get me wrong, we do have some godly, mature ladies in our small church, and they are working to disciple up other godly women. However, they don’t always feel equipped to minister to women struggling with issues of abuse, molestation, rape, and divorce.
And this is where Healing Hearts has become a huge blessing to our ministry. They have provided an amazing, gracious, Gospel-saturated resource for the hurting women in our church.
Not only have they been there to help, counsel, and provide healing, but they have also discipled up women in our church to help other women with those issues and many others.
So, now, six years after my initial introduction to Healing Hearts, this wonderful ministry has become an integral part of our church life.
Several of the women in our church have gone through Healing Hearts studies. Some of those have gone on to become Healing Hearts leaders. Three of our church members work in the Healing Hearts office. And each year, we do a Healing Hearts Sunday, in which testimonies are shared, the ministry is explained, and our entire morning offering goes to the ministry.
But we want to do more. So, we’re praying that more and more pastors, churches, and hurting people would discover this indispensable resource.
We’re praying that more pastors would realize that there is a Christ-centered, Gospel-saturated tool, and gifted women trained in it, just waiting to help lift the burden of their ministry.
We’re praying that more churches would see that Healing Hearts’ mission of “binding up the brokenhearted†is in line with their mission, and that too many of those brokenhearted are sitting silently around us on Sunday mornings.
And we’re praying that those silent people, who have been suppressing that brokenness for too long, would see that there is a ministry called Healing Hearts, where they can come, share their brokenness and pain with people who truly understand, and find the help that will, ultimately, bring them healing.
What an encouragement it is to read testimonies like this from churches and pastors who are being blessed by the ministry of God’s Word restoring broken lives in their congregations. Would you join with us and Pastor Wood in praying for more pastors and churches to discover and use the ministry of Healing Hearts to minister to the brokenhearted in their care?
It is because of your ongoing prayer and financial support that we can continue to evangelize, heal, equip, and train up new counselors to work in churches throughout the US and abroad. Thank you! Your gifts are making a difference.
Please prayerfully consider donating today and partnering with us for the sake of the Gospel.
In His Love,
Sue Liljenberg President/International Director
